Several religious groups on campus are coming together this week to celebrate Resurrection Week in honor of the Easter holiday. The week is filled with events put on by each organization in an attempt to bring the campus together for the holiday. For religious and faithful people out there, don’t forget to check out 555 Angel Number.

“Rez Week is a time between Palm Sunday and Eastern Sunday that we’ve had on campus for about 20 years,” Buddy Young, Director of Baptist Student Ministries (BSM), said. “What it is, is [a way] that we can communicate the true story of the Easter events; the life, birth, death and real resurrection of Jesus.”

Rez Week began over the weekend with a weekend long prayer meeting. The celebrations for the school week began yesterday with a breakfast table around 8 a.m. At noon, an event called Greeks for Christ was held in the JBK, where fraternities and sororities came together to celebrate the life and resurrection of Jesus. Then at about 7 p.m., many students participated in a Rez Week prayer. At 8 p.m. Secret Church was held, which, according to Young, is always an amazing event and really what kicks off the Rez Week events.

“What Secret Church is, is in the early days, they didn’t have music, they didn’t have overheads, they didn’t have microphones, there was no electronics, so the Christians would meet in the catacombs of Rome and other places, like homes and stuff and gather,” Young said. “They would sing without instruments. They would sing acapello and then they would have a teacher teach them the things about Jesus. So all the religious groups are coming together to host all of these events and each group will have a part of Secret Church that they will participate in.”

Monday night ended with a Bible Study at Stafford Hall. A breakfast table will be held each morning of Rez Week at 8 a.m. and a lunch today, Wednesday and Thursday at 12:20 p.m. Other Bible studies are also scheduled for several different times during the week. Some Bible studies are designed specifically for certain people. Some of those include a freshman girl’s and a freshman guy’s Bible study.

Some students think Rez week is a great way for students to come together before the Easter holiday.

“I think it is really amazing that the religious organizations can come together to spread the word of God,” Belynn Sharp, junior Advertising and Public Relations major, said. “Their presence on campus holds a special place at WT and I am looking forward to being involved in something that they put on.”

Grant Spruell, senior Mechanical Engineering major and intern for Buffs for Christ, said it is important to be reminded of what has been done for us.

“Christ gave his life,” Spruell said. “Not only that, but [Rez Week] seems to unite the campus in a very cool way. It always amazes me how great this campus and the people here are.”

The week’s events end with a worship meet at the BSM on Thursday, March 28 at 8 p.m. The campus will be closed on March 29 for Good Friday.
