H.D. Studio open for production, student use

More than 70 people attended the H.D. Studio dedication on Thursday. The dedication started at 11:30 a.m. with Maroon Productions showcasing the use of the equipment. Bob Hudgins, director of the Texas Film Commission, spoke at the dedication.
“This is the beginning of something big for this part of the state,” Hudgins said.
He addressed the Broadcasting students in his speech, about not underestimating this area when it comes to their future jobs when they graduate.
“This is a great place to shoot, and because of this studio there will be great opportunities in the future,” Hudgins said.
A demo reel for a studio in L.A., Stargate Studios, was previewed to give the audience a taste of what the studio will be capable of doing. “I am so excited for the opportunities that this studio is giving me,” Tawni Buhler, senior broadcasting student, said.
Some new projects were announced at the dedication. According to the press release that was written by the Communications and Marketing department, Dr. Browning said, “We’re going to get some major projects shot in this studio, and our students will benefit and learn from these amazing experiences.”
WTAMU is partnering with the Amarillo Independent School District to host, jury and mentor young filmmakers in a STOP! Film Festival. STOP! stands for Students Taking On Prevention. The festival will show student-created; student- led 30 second clips about creating safe and healthy environments. WTAMU students will also help with another film festival. The Bridge Film Festival is a two-day festival hosted in Canadian. The Sybil B. Harrington College of Fine Arts and Humanities has partnered with the Canadian Arts Alliance to make this project happen.
Beginning on Monday, Nov. 8 “One Sessions” will be the premiere of WTAMU’s first multi-platform television show. It will be shot in the new Studio and will be produced by WT’s Maroon Productions. “One Sessions” is a live acoustic music session in a lounge setting.
A show about the Buffs 2010 football season with Coach Don Carthel is another project in the works for the studio. The show will air at the end of the 2010 football season.
