West Texas A&M is gearing up for the Dance Marathon on March 28 at Legacy Hall in the Jack. B. Kelly Center. The concert will last from 2 p.m. to 2 a.m. and will consist of games, food and dancing. The Dance Marathon will be hosted by the campus organization known as S.A.G.E.

S.A.G.E. (Students Assisting N Good Endeavors) hosts several projects throughout the year that aim to serve both the youth and elderly in the Canyon and Amarillo community, as well as the West Texas A&M student body, according to Kaitlyn Hitchens, S.A.G.E member.

The Dance marathon is a nationwide movement which has been trending in over 200 high schools and college communities. Dance marathons have been a viral sensation, with many popular videos being streamed across the web through YouTube, Facebook and many other social networks. S.A.G.E picked up on the trend last year and is looking to add popularity to the event by creating a tradition out of the dance marathon.

“We had a lot of success last year, the dance marathon was a bunch of fun and we want to carry that over into this year’s and make it better,” Kyle Hewitt, Junior and S.A.G.E member, included.

S.A.G.E has the intentions of getting more people involved this year during the dance marathon. They plan on having multiple games throughout the evening, a morale dance every hour and a photo booth as well. Outside of games and dancing, food and beverages will be available at designated times during the event.

Families and patients of the Children’s Miracle Network will make speaking appearances. There will be an opening ceremony, where the families will be introduced.

“The symbolism behind the dance marathon is dancing for the children who are unable to dance,” Jenna Harrison, S.A.G.E member and Eternal Flame Editor, said.

The intentions for the evening are to raise money for the Children’s Miracle Network at BSA hospital, where 100% of all funds will go. S.A.G.E raised an estimate $15,000 last year and is aiming towards a $25,000 goal this year. Money is raised from both personal S.A.G.E. member donations along with free-will donations.
