Students spend about $17.26 billion each year on entertainment, according to Study Breaks magazine.

Seventy percent of students spend money each month at bars, 60 percent spend money on electronics, 59 percent spend money on live music, 57 percent spend money on media (books, apps, magazines) and 38 percent spend money on off campus gyms.

Colleges have free gym memberships for their students.

“I like to do more physical stuff with my friends,” said Brennan Waters, a Mechanical Engineering major at WT.

Movie theaters offer student discounts when students show their school IDs.

“I make sure to have my student ID with me when I go to the movies. I only go with my family anyway,” said Alexis Peck, a General Studies and Special Education major.

Museums like Amarillo Museum of Art, local concerts, parks and activities centers like Discovery Center offer discounts or lower prices for student admission.

“I like to go to museums and other stuff with my friends,” said Hadyn Rose, a Pre-Med major. “I don’t want to spend too much money on different events.”

There are ways to stay on a budget and still do fun things on campus or around town. Websites like visitamarillo.com show things that are available in Amarillo.
