Facebook’s New Emojis

With the new talk for Facebook recently being all about the updated like button, users have been clamoring about it’s ability to now let users share their emotions on posts that show up on their news feed. The new update features a heart, laughing face, wow face, sad face, angry face, and the classic like emoticon.

Many students around West Texas A&M said they liked the new features and a few said that they weren’t big users of Facebook so they weren’t completely aware of all the changes, but that it sounded like a good idea.

“I like that it shows different emotions than just the thumbs up,” Bianca Hernandez, senior sports exercise and science major, said. “For example, the heart and the laughing face are my new favorites.”

With the faces added, people have to opportunity to not only like a user’s post, but also show that they either love it, hate it, or that it shocks them.

“A person is going to find out how people really feel about their post,” Aaron Villegas, freshman electronic media major, said.

All of the new options Facebook has added has also brought up the discussion of the dislike button that many people have been requesting for many years now. The dislike button was not something that was added on this new update,  but it has been highly debated on for a while now and a few students also voiced their opinions about it.

“I think it’ll be a bad idea because people can get hurt and forced to delete their post,” Hugo Anchondo, freshman sports and exercise science major, said. “I feel like it’ll cause everyone to think really hard about what they post and that can be a good thing, but as a society, we can be cruel and ruthless.”

While the dislike button may not be seen for a while, Facebook is giving their users a new way to express their feelings towards others with more than a like.
