The West Texas A&M Buffaloes (4-3,3-2) went on the road to Oklahoma Panhandle State University (1-6, 0-5) and stopped their two game losing streak with a 42-14 win.

The Buffs were led by sophomore quarterback Ben Arbuckle, who made his first career start due to senior quarterback Ethan Brinkley out due to injury. Arbuckle had a career day throwing six touchdown passes and 292 yards.

Junior wide receiver Junior Pome’e was Arbuckle’s favorite target as he racked up eleven catches for a career high 124 yards with four touchdowns.

The Buffs defense played aggressive, tallying five sacks and recording a fumble and an interception.

Head coach Mike Nesbitt was pleased with the effort.

“I was really pleased with the clean second half we had and really good focus,” Nesbitt said. “We tackled well in the second half and got off the field and offensively we did a good job on third down and made some big plays and some big catches. I was really pleased with the finish and in the games we’ve played we haven’t played well in the third quarter in all three phases and we did that today.”

The Buffs return home next week to take on Midwestern State in the annual Highway 287 Challenge. The Buffs lead the challenge so far this season 2-1, picking up wins in volleyball and women’s soccer.
