Homecoming Recap

Marshmallow Roast

Marshmallow Roast was the first Homecoming event; it was sponsored by Resident Hall Association (RHA). This year, the RHA provided marshmallow, Hershey’s chocolate, and graham crackers for students to make s’mores. Many students arrived at the bonfire site early and had their marshmallow roasted. “It is one of the greatest experience to have during college life,” Samantha Soto, freshman, said.

Midnight Weenie Roast

Midnight Weenie Roast was sponsored by Resident Hall Association (RHA). Even though the Weenie Roast was held at midnight; there were still many student at the event. Students were around the fire trying to have their hotdogs roast. There were several cars parked by the bonfire site playing different kinds of music, such as country, rock and pop. Many students just went over there hanging out with friends and enjoying the music.

Pigskin Revue

Pigskin Revue was hosted by the Student Alumni Board. It is the traditional pep rally held before the Torch Procession and Bonfire. The 2009 Homecoming King and Queen: Kirk Scarbrough and Lindsey Wright hosted the event. The pep rally featured the football team and many school organizations, such as cheerleaders, pom squad, marching band, sororities and fraternities. “It is a great way of showing school’s spirit,” Marcus Johnson, a junior student at WT, said. At the end of the event, the majority of students were waiting for the finalists of the Homecoming King and Queen to be announced. The 2010 Homecoming King and Queen finalists were: Zane Crownover, Pedro Ramos, Wade Malone, Lindsey Still, Jasmine Harris and Jennifer Ewers.

Torch Procession and Bonfire

Torch Procession and Bonfire is one of the biggest Homecoming events; it is usually held on the Friday night after the Pigskin Revue. Torch procession was led by the president Dr. J. Patrick O’Brien. There were a lot of students cheering and dancing around the fire, to celebrate WT’s centennial. There was a Homecoming concert next to the bonfire. The concert featured QuietDrive. They sang a numerous famous songs. Students were dancing and singing along with the band, some students even got crowd-surfing. “I love it,” Brittney Wright, junior, said.
