Outdoor Pursuits is a campus program designed to teach students about outdoor living skills such as environmental ethics, safety, judgment and leadership. They offer multiple affordable outdoor excursions throughout each semester. The trips vary in length but typically are a weekend long. The average cost per trip is $60, and they are packaged deals that include instruction, transportation, equipment and food.
“We’re doing a lot of the trips that we did this past year, we’re adding some new trips and we’re kind of tweaking a few things,” Bill Banks, recreational sports director and director of outdoor pursuits, said. One of the primary goals for Outdoor Pursuits this year is to increase participation and increase education about outdoor experiences. It is a learning experience that Banks really wants students to take part in.
For more information, check out the Outdoor Pursuits page on WT’s website. To attend a trip, you must give a minimum of two weeks notice and can contact Bill Banks or the Recreational Sports office at 806-651-2353 for more information.
