Buffs Offense Rolls Again in win over New Mexico Highlands
November 13, 2016
Canyon, TX – The Buffs offense was clicking again as 8 different- players scored for West Texas A&M. The Buffaloes used their offense to defeat New Mexico Highlands 92-77.
The Buffs have scored at least 83 points in their first 5 contests as they have been showing their fire power early despite playing 5 games in 9 days. Head Coach Tom Brown will still tell you this team is nowhere near its potential yet.
“I thought we did a good job,” Brown said. “We got whatever shot we wanted when we moved the ball. We got in trouble when we came down and took a quick shot from one pass, didn’t have anyone crashing the boards. We have to play the right way, when we do that we are tough to beat, but when you come down and take a quick shot, that can get us in trouble a bit.”
It is very normal to have work yet to do this early in the season, Brown is still mostly pleased with where they are for now. After being tested already against some solid team’s, coach Brown has also been pleased with the defense as well.
“I thought we played pretty good defense tonight,” Brown said. “They have a couple guys that are good individual, one on one players Marlon (Johnson) (Highlands forward), he could be one of the best players in the region. So, I think we did a really nice job on him.”
David Chavlovich lead the way with 22 points and 6 assists, he also had great help from teammates like Joseph Prince had droped 21 points himself and had 4 assists to go with it. Jordan Evans and Skyler O’Laughlin both added 14 points as well.
“That was all of us gelling together,” Prince said. “It’s our second year together, we only had Jeff (Bonner) leave so most of us are used to each other. We love playing with each other so it’s a lot of fun out there.”
The Buffs will face another test at Lubbock Christian (0-2) on Thursday. Tip-off is set for 7pm.
