September 25, 2016
The West Texas A&M Buffaloes (3-1,2-0) gave the fans at Kimbrough Memorial Stadium an exciting show when they defeated the Tarleton State Texans (1-3,1-1) 37-25 in their home opener.
The Buffs had a monster day offensively amassing 492 yards of total offense. Junior quarterback Ethan Brinkley passed for 356 yards with a season high three touchdown passes. Senior running back Devon Paye ran for 155 yards, a career high, with a touchdown, including the game clinching 40 yard touchdown run. Senior wide receiver Ja’Quarius Daniels caught seven passes for 71 yards in the game, helping the Buffs to sustain many drives in the game.
Defensively, the Buffs showed up again, picking up two sacks and forcing three turnovers. Senior Carter James returned a fumble 35 yards for a touchdown in the fourth quarter.
The Buffs were able to survive a late game comeback from the Texans as they prepare for the annual Wagon Wheel game next Saturday against Eastern New Mexico (2-2,2-1) in Portales, New Mexico. The Buffs are currently in possession of the Wagon Wheel after defeating the Greyhounds last season 52-42 at Kimbrough Memorial Stadium. The Buffs will play for the first time in Eastern New Mexico’s new stadium.
