Be a TPN Contributor

The Prairie News welcomes contributions from all members of our surrounding communities. We encourage responsible and independent journalism that initiates discussions about campus, community, state, national, and international events that impact WT. We’re looking for topics that are timely and original reporting that honors the Society of Professional Journalists (SPJ) Code of Ethics.

Publication of contributor submissions is at the discretion of The Prairie News editors. News submissions are more likely to be published if they are objectively written, have multiple sources and have limited spelling and grammar mistakes. Opinion pieces are more likely to be published if opinions are backed by research with sources, the piece clearly states the opinion of the author and there is limited spelling and grammar mistakes.

All submissions should be sent to [email protected] with the following information included in the body of the email:

  1. A story pitch that explains the story’s idea, angle, or approach; the elements of newsworthiness; and the story’s significance.
  2. List of sources. Include links and contact information.
  3. Your name as you would want it published.
  4. A short bio and a picture of you for a contributor profile on the website.
  5. Indicate if your submission includes any multimedia components. If so, please transfer the files to TPN for review using We Transfer.

Include the following as attachments:

  1. A horizontally aligned photo or illustration with a 3:2 ratio width to height to be used as a thumbnail. Go to this link to learn more about recommended image and photo settings.
  2. The written report must be at least 500 words long, be written in AP style, and have a headline. Use the TPN Guide if you need resources for writing for journalism.
