First off, let me preface this by congratulating our WT Buffs on another dominating win on the gridiron, this time taking out Midwestern State. Go Buffs!
As we look to this past weekend in sports, one has to say, what a fantastic one it was, particularly in baseball and football. Unprecedented things are happening, and they are happening every week.
Baseball was a focal point of this weekend. The ALCS and NLCS are both going on, and October is in full effect. The real magic is happening in the ALCS, though. While St. Louis and San Francisco are both playing their hearts out against each other, the Royals are almost putting on something that seems magical, mythical even. A team that hasn’t been to the playoffs in 29 years is now six and zero in the postseason, and four of those have been in extra innings, and one of those was in the ninth inning. It sounds improbable, and I am having even a hard time believing as I’m typing this, but it’s happening, and the Royals have definitely arrived.
Let’s shift gears real quick to college football. After being ranked number nine in 1940, which was the highest they have ever been ranked, Mississippi State is looking less like a Cinderella story and more like a team that can’t and won’t be stopped. It’s hard to write them off at all. They beat a Texas A&M team that was ranked six in the nation, and not only did they beat them, they made the Aggies look like trash. Then, they took it to the number two ranked team in the nation, Auburn, and made them look just as bad. Now, I could be wrong, but this Mississippi State team looks like it is in it to win it for the long haul. Who knows though, they have to take on their in-state rival, Ole Miss, eventually, the Rebels are looking just as good as these Bulldogs.
Finally, to end off the weekend, we got a slate of some good ole NFL football. One game in particular stood out to me, and that was of course the Cowboys, who, contrary to what the score showed, dominated a Seahawks team that just a year ago were the Superbowl champs. Of course, I’m a Ravens fan, and if the Cowboys ever have to face them, I apologize to everyone in Cowboy nation when we have to smash you, but these Cowboys are looking like the team of the early 90’s. A solid running game with easily one of the best o-lines in the game, and a QB and WR that make plays when needed. Is it ringing bells now. I also find it ironic that this revelation is right after Tony Romo injured his back. Maybe he realized he needed to tone it down a bit. Nevertheless, this team looks ready, and I wouldn’t be surprised if they rode this all the way to the Superbowl.
