CANYON, Texas — A Jan. 3 small fire on the roof of West Texas A&M University’s Palo Duro Research Facility was quickly extinguished.
According to Robert Thompson, director of WT Fire and Life Safety, the fire began at approximately 2:20 p.m. Jan. 3. A new emergency generator was being tested, and the heat caused roof insulation to combust. The building was evacuated.
The fire was confined to the northwest corner of the roof and caused less than $10,000 in damage. There were no injuries.
The Canyon Fire Department responded on Thompson’s request, removed some of the membrane covering on the roof and quickly extinguished the small active fire.
