Advertising student organization prepares for interesting year

With the beginning of a new semester, the Advertising and Public Relations Society is wasting no time in getting active. With their theme of “Boot Camp” this year, they’re ready for new recruits.

The AD/PR Society is the professional organization that represents students taking advertising and public relations classes. Students who join can become members of the American Advertising Federation as well as the Texas Public Relations Association.

Each semester the club participates in two competitions, the first taking place in the fall, “The Advertising Student Competition,” and the second during the spring, “The National Student Advertising Competition.”Dr. Emily Kinsky, a faculty member in the Department of Communication and an adviser to the organization, said joining the club is a “good investment of time.”

Throughout the semester students in the club will be involved with various activities such as a rock wall challenge as well as fundraisers.

“We have the best students on campus,” said adviser Lori Westermann, who is also a faculty member in the Department of Communication. “We have great hard working students.”

Last spring the Buffalo Advertising Team placed first runner up in the National Student Advertising Competition.

“It can help you get ready for your career,” Yadira Garcia, a member of the AD/PR Society, said. “It’s also a great way to network with other people.”

The club meets every Tuesday at noon in Room 260 in the Fine Arts and Humanities building.
