About 17 years ago, Kristen Robberts started at WTAMU as a secretary, and since then has worked her way up to become an education advisor. Robberts knew she wanted to be able to interact with students and make an impact so she took her chance when the advisor job opened up.
“It was an open position, and I always wanted to work with students more directly,” Robberts said.
For Robberts, it is the people that make the job rewarding and worthwhile.“My favorite parts about my job are getting to work with students everyday and having good co-workers,” she said.
The best moments for her are when students succeed.
“She is very student-oriented,” Tana Gunter, director of TExES Testing said. “She wants to make sure the students get what they need and are satisfied and are ready for graduation.”
Robberts gets to see students from the beginning of the semester and continues to help them until they graduate.
“There are always the students that work so hard, and seeing them graduate after they overcome obstacles [is the best moment],” she said.
According to Gunter, students are very important to Robberts.
“She is so good with our students, she has great work ethic, we all get along and we have a blast in here,” Gunter said. “It’s a good working environment.”
Robberts not only advises Education majors, but also creates the degree plans for the College of Education and Social Sciences.
“She is extremely busy and extremely dedicated to making certain every student gets what they need so they can graduate on time,” Connie Villescas, office manager, said.
According to Robberts, dealing with angry and upset parents can be a difficult aspect of the job, but other than that she likes her work environment.
“She works very well with not only the students but the faculty and the people here in the office, Villescas said. “We really enjoy working with her.”
