WT is to offer sexual assault training to students, faculty and staff at 11:45 a.m. on Feb. 20 in the JBK.

Subjects covered will be what defines sexual assault, what the University is doing to prevent it and recourses that victims will have in the event of a sexual assault.

While the University will be hosting the event, they will receive help from Family Support Services in Amarillo.“Sometimes there are a lot of questions as to whether or not the victim has been sexually assaulted,” Brandi Reed, director of education at Family Support Services said.

Family Support Services is a local rape crisis center and provides victims with legal advocacy, victim’s advocacy and counseling.

The University is required to provide this training as a provision of Title IX.

“It’s great that we’re having this training, so that a lady would not get put down by an older man and used,” Clay Washington, a freshman Public Relations major, said.

“The training gives people the knowledge to know if someone has crossed the line or not,” Andrew Kelley, a sophomore Pre-Med major, said.
