Once again, the Lonestar Ampitheater in Lubbock was overflowing with rock fans on Fri., March 22. This time, they were all waiting to experience performances from some of the biggest bands in mainstream rock radio. The arena was packed. Rockers and concert-goers literally covered the ground and the grassy hill behind and surrounding the ground level. Their faces and bodies all blended together like a pile of ants swarming about, ready to see a good show.
P.O.D. was the first band to take the stage. Front man Sonny Sandoval, who usually has a reputation for flailing his long dread locks about wildly as he performs, was without his dreads this time as he performed a few of the band’s major hits. Alive, Youth of the Nation and Boom were among the few songs that P.O.D. performed for the evening. Although each band was said to be performing a 75 minute set a piece, P.O.D. graced the stage for all but 45 minutes, leaving some fans displeased. Many fans were also disappointed when the crowd called for an encore shouting “P.O.D.! P.O.D!” but the band did not return to the stage.
However, spirits were instantly lifted as Three Days Grace began their hour and a half long set. They didn’t skip a beat, performing each one of their chart-topping songs from their first hit from 2003, I Hate Everything About You, to their most recent hit single, Chalk Outline. If their nearly flawless performance wasn’t enough, they added fire to the mix as well. Pyrotechnics went off throughout their entire set, making an unforgettable performance from Three Days Grace.
As unforgettable as their performance at the Lonestar Ampitheater that night was, so were the restrooms. Lines to the bathrooms were long as usual, but for the females, there was another reason the line kept growing longer. Half of the approximately 10 toilets were filled to the top with waste and toilet paper. It was disgusting. Some of the things witnessed in that restroom are too atrocious to print. Not only were these toilets literally overflowing with waste, but they were not even closed off despite the many complaints made.
Finishing off the show was Shinedown. Their more mellow tone made the night seem to start to wind down until they played their 2010 hit, Sound of Madness, which the entire crowd participated in singing as well. Front man, Brent Smith, thanked the crowd at the end of the night and repeated words that Texas rockers never tire of hearing after each concert.
“You guys are so amazing. We are always happy when we get to come rock out with y’all! See ya next time.”
