West Texas A&M University (WT) Nickel Back Jamel Accosta-Lewis enters the transfer portal for his final year of eligibility for NIL, heading to Stephen F. Austin.
During his two seasons with the Buffaloes, Accosta-Lewis appeared in 22 games and recorded 63 total tackles. His strong 2025 campaign earned him First Team All-Defense honors in the Lone Star Conference (LSC), solidifying his reputation as one of the conference’s top defensive backs.
“This is part of my dream to play D1,” Accosta-Lewis said. “I’ve been working towards this opportunity for a long time.”
Acosta-Lewis football journey has been shaped in a large part by his older brother, Aaron Accosta-Lewis who played with his brother at Caprock High School. Aaron plays at Eastern New Mexico University. The two faced off during the fall 2025 season when WT defeated Eastern New Mexico to retain the Wagon Wheel rivalry trophy.
“Aaron, my big brother, taught me everything I know,” Accosta-Lewis said. “He’s definitely someone I look up to.”
Aaron has also voiced his support for his younger brother’s move.
“I’m proud of him,” Aaron said. “You can do it, brother. Keep grinding. You can definitely go to D1.”
With one year of eligibility remaining, Accosta-Lewis now prepares for the next chapter of his collegiate career as he transitions to the Division 1 level.
