Oct. 2 was the annual campus clean up, Work-A-Thon. Organizations gathered by the Jack B. Kelley Student Center at 9a.m. to register before they were assigned different places on and off campus to clean.
People participating in the event were given snacks before they began cleaning their assigned place.
“The purpose is to spruce up the campus before Homecoming, as well as provide a fundraiser for campus organizations,” Skip Chisum, JBK director said. “Sometimes, it’s a tricky thing to do, because our grounds staff keeps the campus so beautiful.”
Organizations raised money before Work-A-Thon. The organization to raise the most money won an extra $100. The organization that won this year is the WTAM Bowling Team. They raised more than $2000.
Some organizations, instead of cleaning around WT, started the long process of building the bonfire, which will be lit after the Pigskin Revue on Friday night.
Representing Residential Hall Association along with other organizations was Eddie Torres, a sophomore Pre-Nursing major.
“We spent all morning building the bonfire, which was really hard,” Torres said.
After the work was completed, students received work-a-thon t-shirts to thank them for their efforts in cleaning the campus.
