It is 26 days until Christmas and WTAMU is already feeling the holiday spirit. On Nov. 28 at 6 p.m, Carol of Lights and Toys for Tots took place on the south side of Old Main. The Residence Hall Association sponsored the annual event where students, staff, faculty and community members shared their holiday spirit.
“Tonight, the WT Brass Ensemble and the choir will play and sing and President J. Patrick O’ Brien will turn on all the Christmas lights,” Madison Dunn, vice president of Stafford Hall, said. “There will be given candles to all the people.”
The Brass Ensemble and various choirs performed many Christmas jingles such as “Joy to the World,” “The First Noel,” “Hank The Herald Angels Sing,” and many more. There were also refreshments and snacks offered for the people in the Old Main Foyer.“The Marines are gathering the gifts for Toys for Tots and they will distribute them,” Nicole Moore, president of RHA, said. “Many of the toys were donated by the residence halls in WT.”
The mission of the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Program is to collect new, unwrapped toys to distribute them as Christmas gifts to needy children in the community. The goal of the program is to deliver a message of hope to less fortunate children and assist them in becoming responsible, productive, patriotic citizens.
“I’m looking forward to seeing all the Christmas lights that Dr. O’Brien will turn on by pushing a button,” Briana Griswald, vice president of Buff Hall.
