Confetti and balloons marked the official announcement of the WTAMU “Show Your Pride” campaign on Tuesday, Aug. 28, in the Cornette Library.
Alumni, students, and faculty present at the announcement listened as WT President Dr. J. Patrick O’Brien revealed the campaign as part of a five-year effort to raise funds for continued University improvement and scholarships. It is set to be the largest fundraising effort in WT history.
“The goal of the campaign is to have a greater impact of student lives and the community,” O’Brien said.
The goal of the campaign is to raise $35 million, which will benefit both students and faculty. Of that amount, $15 million will go toward scholarships, $12 million for capital projects and $8 million for faculty and program support. Funding is expected to generate from Alumni, businesses and various foundations.
Don Powell, chairman and donor of the campaign, said the campaign was critical for the University and the economy.
The initial phase of the program earned the university $20.2 million. The “Show Your Pride” campaign is the final push for fundraising and is expected to last two years.
