It was a tale of two different games as the Lady Buff Soccer squad defeated Angelo State 2-0 on Friday before falling to Incarnate Word 4-1 on Sunday.
“We did a good job on Friday battling the wet conditions, keeping our composure passing the ball around and just being patient for the goals,” senior striker Leslie Briggs said, who scored her twelfth goal of the season against Angelo State. “On Sunday, we did not have the same level of intensity as the other team, making it difficult to get something going.”
Despite having a quiet day against Incarnate Word, Briggs remains a top 15 scorer in the 2012 Division II record books.
Along with the score by Briggs, Berklee Watson contributed to the Lady Buff side by scoring a 35 yarder against the Rambelles while Jesse Thomas and Emily Krenek provided the lone goal and assist respectively against the Cardinals. For the Cardinals, however, they were led by Amber Guenther who capitalized with the hat trick as Katie Miller chipped in with a goal and an assist. Sydney Solomon and Sarah Johnson also furnished assists for the Cardinals in the second half of Sunday’s game.
“We just need to improve on our overall attitude,” senior midfielder Becky Peth said. “There weren’t really any positives.”
The Lady Buffs march on in their 2012 campaign with a 5-2 record in conference play and 6-4-1 overall. Angelo State falls to 4-4-1 overall and 2-2-1 in LSC action while Incarnate Word improves to 3-3 in the Lone Star Conference and an overall record of 3-5. The Lady Buffs look to rebound when they resume their home stand at The Pitch against Abilene Christian Friday, Oct. 5 at 7 p.m. while hosting Midwestern State on Sunday, Oct. 7 at 1:30 p.m.
