The No. 6 WTAMU volleyball team extended their current winning streak to 19 games over the weekend with two Lone Star Conference sweeps at home over the No. 17-ranked Rambelles of Angelo State on Nov. 8 and the TexAnns of Tarleton State on Nov. 9.  The Lady Buffs also clinched the program’s 18th LSC title with their victory over ASU.

The going wasn’t easy versus the Belles, as the Lady Buffs were locked in a seesaw battle for most of the night, but WT was eventually able to sweep the highly anticipated match [25-20, 25-23, 25-22].

Junior Lauren Bevan led WT offensively over the Belles with 13 kills, followed by redshirt senior Laura Iwuchukwu with ten and sophomore Lexi Davis with nine.

Junior Kameryn Hayes racked up 36 assists and redshirt freshman Lauren Britten tallied 18 digs.  Senior Halie Harton showed off her versatility, recording nine kills offensively and 13 digs defensively.

The Lady Buffs hit .239 offensively and had 14 attack errors.  Defensively, WT held ASU to a .147 clip and the Belles racked up 24 attack errors.  The Lady Buffs were able to successfully reject ASU with 11.5 blocks, while the Belles were only able to muster up two of their own.

WT dropped ASU to 19-7 overall on the season and 11-3 in conference play.

Versus TSU, on Senior Day, the Lady Buffs swept the TexAnns in much more manageable fashion [25-15, 25-20, 25-16].

WT used a multi-faceted attack offensively, as they were led by Hayes, Harton and Iwuchukwu with seven kills apiece.  Hayes also led the team with 22 assists and Britten led both teams with 23 digs.

WT hit .236 for the match and had twelve attack errors.  TSU struggled mightily offensively, as they were only able to hit .054 as a team and racked up 26 attack errors.  The Lady Buffs tallied 12.5 blocks defensively while the TexAnns were only able to put back 3.5.

TSU fell to 14-12 on the season and just 7-7 in LSC play.

WT improved their impressive overall record to 25-3 and are a perfect 14-0 in conference play.  The weekend victories enhanced the team’s current winning streak at home to 23, and their victory over ASU clinched their right to host the 2013 LSC Tournament at “The Box,” which will begin on Nov. 21.

The Lady Buffs will be on the road for their next three matches, the first being a non-conference match-up in Lubbock, Texas on Nov. 12 against the Lady Chaps of Lubbock Christian at 6:30 p.m.  WT will then finish off the 2013 season with two conference matches in Denton, Texas against Texas Woman’s and in Commerce, Texas against Texas A&M-Commerce on Nov. 15 at 7 p.m. and Nov. 16 at 6 p.m., respectively.
