Lady Buffs take down Incarnate Word

The WTAMU volleyball team was back in action Thursday night at “The Box” taking on Incarnate Word.

Despite dropping the first set, WT rebounded to defeat the Lady Cardinals in four games which extended their LSC winning streak to 75 games overall.  This puts WT in sole possession of second place all time in NCAA Division II history.

In the first set, both teams battled hard with UIW eventually coming out on top 25-23.  The Lady Buffs were held to a .000 hitting percentage with the Lady Cardinals hitting .194.

WT responded with great intensity in the second set, winning 25-15.  The Lady Buff defense was in full force in this set, holding UIW to a .077 hitting percentage.

Incarnate Word gave the Lady Buffs a fight in the third set, but it wasn’t enough as WT pulled it out 25-20.  The Lady Buffs put away UIW in the fourth set 25-18, hitting an impressive .312 in the process and sealing the victory.

Senior Lauren Thedford led the Lady Buffs in kills with 17.  Redshirt freshman Haleigh Cearley chipped in 10 kills on the night.

Junior Erika Dupree had a team-high 26 assists on the night with senior Teresa Dunn not far behind with 20 assists.

Sophomores Kelsey Mangum and Libero Lauren Beville each recorded 14 digs in the match.

WT improved its overall record to 17-8 overall and 9-0 in LSC play.  The Lady Buffs will stay at home taking on Texas A&M Kingsville Oct. 23 on Senior Day.  Seniors Teresa Dunn and Lauren Thedford will be honored before the game.  First serve is set for 1 p.m. at “The Box.”
