Apple Founder and Former CEO Steve Jobs dies at 56
It was on October 5, 2011 when the people in Canyon, around the U.S. and all over the world were shocked to hear of the death of founder and former CEO of Apple, Steve Jobs.
“It was surreal,” J.D. Newman Senior Corporate Communications major said.
Steve Jobs history and impact on the world of technology is well-known even if one did not know his name. To understand Jobs’ influence one would only have to look at the devices he is credited for being the inventor or co-inventor of: the iPod, iPhone, iTunes, the iPad amongst others. For decades Jobs has been inventing technologies and impressing others with his passion.“I was very impressed by what he wanted his products to do and how he met everyone’s needs they didn’t even know they had,” Ben Thompson Canyon resident and Junior of Graphic Design at Savannah College of Art and Design said.
Jobs dealt with serious health problems since 2003 when he was diagnosed with a rare form of pancreatic cancer, which was put into remission in 2005. He also had a liver transplant in 2009. It was on August 24th that Jobs stepped down as CEO. On the day of his death, Apple placed a picture of Jobs with his year of birth and death and a brief obituary in the founder’s honor.
“Steve leaves behind a company that only he could have built, and his spirit will forever be the foundation of Apple,” said the last line of the obituary.
Jobs leaves behind his wife and three children. The family said in a press release they intend to put up a memorial website where anyone can share their memories of Jobs.
