The No. 11 WTAMU Lady Buffs volleyball team began a four-game home stand by welcoming the Zias of Eastern New Mexico University into “The Box” on Oct. 16. The Lady Buffs swept the match in dominant fashion by scores of 25-7, 25-7 and 25-9.

The Lady Buffs kicked off the match by scoring the first nine points of set one. WT continued their dominance by outscoring the Zias 16-7 throughout the rest of the set.

The Lady Buffs started the second set with an 8-1 lead. WT extended the lead to 16-5 going into an ENMU timeout. The Lady Buffs would outscore the Zias 9-2 after that timeout for the 25-7 second set win.

WT got another quick start in the third set, going ahead 7-1. The Lady Buffs built a 14-5 lead when ENMU called a timeout. With a 17-7 lead, WT would come out of one of their own timeouts and go on an 8-2 run to complete the sweep.

“Eastern just got us after a bad weekend,” Head Coach Jason Skoch said. “We had to come out and show character today.”

The Lady Buffs offense was led by junior Halie Harton and senior Erin Dougherty with nine kills each. Freshman Lexi Davis and sophomore Kameryn Hayes each had six kills for WT. Senior Lacy Hayes dished out 34 assists and senior Lauren Beville had 23 digs and her first career kill to end the match.

The Lady Buffs have a huge weekend of Lone Star Conference action ahead. They will host the Texas Woman’s Pioneers on Oct. 19 at 7 p.m. and Texas A&M-Commerce on Oct. 20 at p.m.
