For the longest the time I have wanted to travel somewhere outside of the US but due to money and my parent’s uneasiness of the unknown, my only option was and is to daydream.
Well, a group of students had the chance of a lifetime and were able to travel to a foreign country to learn about one of the world’s most multifaceted ecosystems. Just recently a class of 20 students took a one-month trip to Malaysia, Borneo to learn about the ecosystem of the tropical rainforest. While exploring the ground floor, the students came upon a new species of spiders. These millimeter long spiders weave their webs amongst dead leaves along the ground floor. With the aid of their teacher, technology and some kitchen supplies the students discovered that this articular spider is an unknown species to the insect world.
The fact of the matter is these kids went on an adventure to learn first hand what and how this specific environment works. In the end they ended up finding a whole new species.
Some would say that leaving the country or even going to a bigger city is dangerous, but what some do not understand is that person can be hurt by crossing the street or even in their own home. That same person can go half across the world and not have a scratch on them when they come back, and instead come back with the knowledge of a new culture. Those who do not try new things and immerse themselves outside of their comfortable zone will not have the lifetime experience that others manage to have.
