A student group at West Texas A&M University, MEDIAMinds, is one of the first to do beta testing on a new piece of technology that works with video production.
The students and Dr. Leigh Browning, professor of Business Communication, paired up with WT alum Paul Miller to begin beta testing on the Time Code Sync Master.
The Sync Master is a time code device that will let multiple cameras be paired together by showing a time code in multiple frames of video, in an eight hour time frame. This helps editors put videos together more quickly and efficiently, which used to be a very pricey thing. Getting to work with this type of technology is giving these students the opportunity to gain knowledge in their industry.
“I am very lucky to have had this opportunity and be able to put this on my resume. I get to say that I have beta tested something that nobody else has had the ability to beta test,” Gross said.
Miller originally contacted Browning about the testing.
“I called my friend and former professor Nick Gerlich,” Miller said. “He connected me with Dr. Browning, and after we did a demonstration, we thought that the Sync Master would work out great for the students at WT. Dr. Browning was absolutely thrilled to test it because it would help them solve a challenge of editing multi-camera shoots that her students were working on at the time.”
Students have stated that they will never forget the experience and are so grateful for Miller asking them to be apart of the testing for this technology.
