Snap 12-game winning streak against SWOSU
The #12 ranked WTAMU Lady Buff basketball team was at home Dec. 4 against Southwestern Oklahoma State at the First United Bank Center.
At the 19:11 mark of the first half WT held a 4-0 lead. SWOSU got on the board at the 17:33 mark with an old-fashioned three-point play cutting the lead to 4-3.
With 13:22 remaining, the Lady Buffs had a 14-7 lead that grew to 20-12 at the 10:25 mark. WT held a slim 25-24 lead with 3:52 remaining before halftime. SWOSU stormed back and took a 34-29 lead into the locker room at halftime.
One of the big reasons for the Lady Bulldogs lead was the fact that they shot 46 percent from the field as opposed to the Lady Buffs 40 percent.
SWOSU kept up the momentum in the second half as they held a 44-34 lead with 16:31 remaining in regulation. A 13-2 run propelled the Lady Bulldogs to a 58-46 lead with 10:40 left in the game.
With 5:35 left in the contest a technical foul was issued to WT Head coach Krista Gerlich for arguing a turnover call that went against the Lady Buffs. After making two free throws, SWOSU was up 65-55. The Lady Bulldogs never looked back and pulled off the upset victory winning 78-70.
Junior Jamie Simmons led the scoring attack for the Lady Buffs with 25 points on the night followed by senior Megan McLain with 22 points on the night.
The Lady Buffs overall record now stands at 3-2. WT will now prepare to take on Texas Woman’s University
