Hold Bronchos to lowest point total of season
The WTAMU men’s basketball team played its toughest opponent of the season so far Dec. 18 at the First United Bank Center taking on #13 ranked Central Oklahoma.
WT showed no signs of being intimidated as they soundly defeated the Bronchos 67-60 to remain undefeated at 10-0.
In a very physical first half, both teams struggled to find their offensive rhythm. At the 7:40 mark the Buffs held a 14-13 lead, but then went on a 12-3 run to help propel them to a 26-16 lead with 5:07 remaining before halftime.
WT went into the break leading 34-25. This was the lowest output in the first half by the Bronchos this season.
In the second half, the Buffs kept up the pressure on UCO as they led 41-27 at the 15:33 mark. The Bronchos however, showed why they are ranked highly as they fought back to within six points at 45-39 with 10:08 remaining in regulation.
The game remained close throughout the closing moments as WT clung to a 54-48 lead with 5:17 left in the second half. The Buffs closed down proceedings as they made clutch shots down the stretch to claim a 67-60 upset victory.
Leading the scoring for the Buffs on the night was junior Rod Little with 13 points followed by fellow junior Lionel Foster with 12 points. Senior Alex Davis chipped in 11 points on the night along with eight rebounds.
