On Feb. 16, the Phi Mu Alpha will be hosting the Composition Recital in the Mary Moody Northern Recital Hall at 7:30 p.m.

The winner of the competition will win a portion of money that was collected from participant fees at the end of the recital.

“Anybody who’s composed a piece can join the event,” said Dr. Robert Krause, Head of the Music Department, said.The Phi Mu Symphony wants to promote American music and this encourages the students to be creative, Krause said.

“I’ve been practicing since November,” Music major Jacob Christensen said. “I’m performing a piece called ‘Unity’ that was written by John Stacy.”

Christensen said that he feels nervous about performing because he switched instruments but thinks he will be okay.

“It’s really exciting for John [Stacy],” Christensen said. “He’s worked really hard for this composition of his.”

Phi Mu Epsilon will be hosting the banquet for the recital.

“The recital is a neat thing,” Erin Springer, President of Phi Mu Epsilon, said. “It involves all people from the music department. It’d be a neat thing to go to.”

The Composition Recital will be free of charge.
