The Student Senate met on Oct. 14, and among other topics of discussion was the prospect of recognizing outstanding achievement among the student body. According to graduate English major and Student Body Vice President Amanda Kraemer, all groups of students, from scholarship winners to sports teams, have been recognized in the past. Any student or group of students is eligible for official recognition in an official Senate resolution.
“It will be voted on and passed by the Senate and signed by our president, and then a copy of the bill will be presented to students recognized,” Kraemer said
Kraemer also said a record of the resolution would be forever kept in the Senate records.
Several students voiced a desire to have academic achievements in particular represented. Student Senator and Elementary Education major Baylee Baker said academic recognition could be a springboard for others to excel academically.
“If I see someone being rewarded for their achievements, I strive to do that as well,” Baker said.
William Hieronymus, a freshman Mass Communication major, said the hard work and dedication that good academic performance requires deserves to be recognized.
“They’ve had to work as hard as a football player,” said Hieronymus.
