After falling into a two to nothing series hole, the No. 3 West Texas A&M baseball team fought back to earn the series split with visiting Cameron University from March 28 to March 30 at Wilder Park in Canyon. The Buffs would fall on March 28 and in the first leg of the doubleheader on March 29 by scores of 4-3 and 11-4, the WTAMU bats came to life as the Buffs would rally back against the Aggies in the second leg of the doubleheader and on March 30 by scores of 9-4 and 13-6.
The Buffs did not score until the bottom of the sixth inning already trailing to the Aggies, 4-0, on Mar. 28th. The Buffs were not able to come back from the four point deficit, and drop the first game, 4-3. WT senior shortstop Matt Redfearn crossed home plate twice off his two hits with the help of senior right-fielder Tyler McKnight and junior designated hitter Dylan Dyson
The doubleheader on March 29 was a split for the Buffs. While the Cameron Aggies claimed game one of the doubleheader, it was game two that would yield the first Buffalo win of the series. WT senior shortstop Matt Redfearn collected two runs and an RBI in his three at-bats. Junior leftfielder Nick Chapman had three RBIs and scored two runs at four at-bats while Dyson had collected two RBIs for the Buffs as well. Senior righty Joshua Weyker would pick up his sixth victory of the season.
The Buffs evened out the series on March 30 in convincing fashion as they defeated the Aggies, as right-handed senior Sam Ouellet would improve to a 5-1 record on the year. Redfearn recorded three RBIs for the Buffs while senior infielder David Hebert had three RBIs off of five at-bats. Junior leftfielder Nick Chapman would aid the Buff cause with a home run, his second of the 2014 campaign.
The Buffs improved to 26-7 overall and 15-5 in the LSC while Cameron evens out to an 11-17 overall record and 6-12 in Lone Star Conference play.
The Buffaloes will begin the second half of conference play at Texas A&M-Kingsville from April 4 to April 5 before traveling to Plainview to take on Wayland Baptist on April 8. The Buffs will return home at Wilder Park to host Eastern New Mexico from April 11 to April 12 in a three game series.
