The #7 ranked WTAMU Buffs faced every obstacle possible Oct. 16 in Kingsville against the #9 ranked Javelinas. Although they survived a pre-game power outage and a homecoming crowd of 14,500, the Buffs were unable to defeat Kingsville, losing 28-24.
WT didn’t get on the board until the 6:43 mark of the first quarter. Quarter back Taylor Harris found wide receiver Stephen Burton over the middle and eventually broke through the TAMUK defense to score from 24-yards out making the score 7-0 Buffs.
On the next possession, the Buffs drove deep into Kingsville territory thanks to a 62-yard run by running back Kelvin Thompson. The drive eventually led to a 20-yard field goal from Sergio Castillo making the score 10-0 with 2:16 left in the first quarter.
TAMUK struck back in the second quarter when QB Nate Poppell found Robert Armstrong for a 29-yard touchdown pass. WT’s Rashad Sanders blocked the point after touch down to take the score 10-6 Buffs with 13:50 remaining in the second quarter.
