The #7 ranked WTAMU Lady Buff basketball team opened the 2010-11 season on the road Nov. 13 against St. Mary’s in a rematch of last year’s NCAA regional quarterfinal.
WT came away with a hard fought 66-62 victory.
In the first half WT shot 41 percent from the floor and 25 percent from the free throw line. The Lady Buffs had their biggest lead of the game at 4:24 of the first half when they led 24-16. St. Mary’s went on a 9-2 run to make it a 26-25 game at halftime.
St. Mary’s claimed a 48-43 lead with 9:04 left in the game, but thanks to WT going 18-24 from the free throw line, including 4-4 during the last few minutes of the game, the Lady Buffs were able to earn a 66-62 victory.
Junior Jamie Simmons tallied a double-double with 19 points and 10 rebounds. Senior Joni Unruh registered 16 points while freshman Lacee Logan chipped in 14 points while going 4-6 from three point range.
The Lady Buffs will now prepare to face Central Missouri on Nov, 14 in San Antonio with tip-off scheduled for 1 p.m.
