Four players score double figures in win
The #12 ranked WTAMU Lady Buff basketball team was at home Dec. 2 taking on Cameron University in the LSC conference opener.
The Lady Buffs used a strong team effort to overcome the Lady Aggies 70-61.
Freshman Casey Land gave WT an early 3-0 lead just 20 seconds into the contest. Cameron responded to take a 4-3 lead at the 18:39 mark of the first half.
With Cameron leading 12-8, junior Ashley Leven began to catch fire as she converted a three-point play which sparked a 15-4 run for the Lady Buffs. WT took a 23-14 lead with 6:32 remaining in the first half.
Consistent shooting kept up the momentum for the Lady Buffs going into halftime as they led 32-24. WT ended up shooting 44 percent from the field for the half.
In the second half, WT came out strong with an 11-6 run to increase their lead to 43-30 with 15:41 remaining in regulation. That lead grew to 53-35 with 13 minutes left.
With 9:22 left in the contest, WT seemed to have things well in hand leading 58-37. But, Cameron wouldn’t go quietly as they stormed back with a 14-4 run to trim the Lady Buffs lead to 62-51.
Cameron kept things close for the remainder of the contest but in the end WT came away with a 70-61 victory.
Juniors Ashley Leven, Jamie Simmons and freshman Casey Land all led the way for the Lady Buffs in scoring on the night with 11 points. Junior Aly Sherman chipped in 10 points on the night. Freshmen Lacee Logan and Ariel Robertson had nine points and seven points respectively.
The Lady Buffs overall record now stands at 3-1. WT will now prepare to take on Southwestern Oklahoma State University on Dec. 4 at the First United Bank Center. Tip-off is set for 4 p.m.
