McLain gets double-double in victory
The #23 WTAMU Lady Buff basketball team was on the road Dec. 9 taking on Texas Woman’s University in LSC crossover action.
WT rebounded from a tough loss last week to take out TWU 80-45.
At the 12:35 mark of the first half, the Lady Buffs held a 10-6 lead. The Lady Pioneers came right back to tie the game and eventually take their first lead of the game at the 9:57 mark.
TWU then tried to take control of the game and held an 18-12 lead with 8:04 remaining in the first half. WT then took a 21-18 with just under six minutes remaining.
This back and forth style continued up until halftime when WT entered the locker room holding a slim 31-28 advantage.
At the start of the second half, the Lady Buffs went on a 12-3 run to gain a 43-31 lead with 15:56 left in regulation. Although TWU got a layup to trim the lead to 43-33 at the 15:47 mark, they wouldn’t score again until 10:48 left in the second half.
WT didn’t take their foot off the gas pedal as the Lady Buffs came away with an 80-45 victory.
Leading the way for the Lady Buffs on the night was senior Megan McLain who tallied 24 points and 15 rebounds, giving her a double-double for the first time this season. Junior Jamie Simmons chipped in 22 points in the contest. Freshman Ariel Robertson had 10 points.
The Lady Buffs overall record now stands at 4-2 on the season. WT will now prepare for Texas A&M-Commerce on Dec. 11 with tip-off scheduled for 5 p.m. from TAMUC Fieldhouse in Commerce, Texas.
