The No. 14 WTAMU Lady Buff volleyball team hosted the Cameron Aggies in The Box on Oct. 18. WT defeated Cameron 25-20, 25-21 and 25-21 to extend their winning streak at home to 24 in a row.
The Lady Buffs took advantage of two different runs to get separation in the first set. The first came with the Aggies leading 1-2 before WT scored the next seven points to take an 8-2 lead. Then up 11-9, the Lady Buffs scored four more consecutive points to get a 15-9 lead. Cameron got as close as 22-20, but WT ended the set with another three straight points.
“I’m disappointed because we didn’t have enough of a defensive push tonight,” Head Coach Jason Skoch said.
The Aggies built a 16-17 lead over WT in the second set, but a 6-1 run gave the Lady Buffs a 22-18 lead into a Cameron timeout. The Aggies got within one at 22-21 until WT ended their threat with three straight points.
The Aggies took a quick 3-4 lead in the third set when the Lady Buffs outscored Cameron 16-8 to go up 19-12. The Aggies rallied by scoring eight of the next nine points to even the score at 20. WT quelled the rally and ended the match by going on a 5-1 run.
“Our program is based on a culture of energy, and it’s frustrating that I’m not seeing that,” said Skoch.
Junior Sarah Martin had a match high 18 kills and sophomore Ashley Davis had 15. Junior Lauren Beville got nine digs to lead the Lady Buffs defensively. Junior Lacy Hayes picked up 44 assists on the night.
