The women’s soccer team had a disappointing pair of games this weekend, going 0-2 on The Pitch.
The Lady Buffs stepped on the field on Oct. 21 against the Angelo State Rambelles. WT came out hard but nearly half way into the first, the Rambelles scored. The half would end with Angelo State tallying four shots to WT’s two.
Both teams returned to the field on a mission during the second half but both goalkeepers made sure there was no more numbers put on the scoreboard. The ending score was 1-0 in favor of Angelo State. On Oct. 23, the Lady Buffs returned to the field to take on Incarnate Word in an early afternoon game.
The first half would prove to be the most interesting in terms of scoring with UIW scoring twice in a little over five minutes half way through the first. The Lady Buffs rebounded to make the game 2-1 when Leslie Briggs scored with 6:27 left in the half.
The second half saw a goalie change in the WT net when Jamie Hall replaced Yvette Bedoy. The change would be successful with Hall making five saves in a scoreless half.
“Just like on Friday, I thought the last twenty minutes actually put out a whole lot of effort so instead of rebounding, I think we have to figure out how to put that type of effort from the start. We don’t seem to have any sort of urgency until we’re losing,” Head Coach Chad Webb said.
The 2-1 loss takes the Lady Buffs’ record to 7-8-1 with a 4-5-1 Lone Star Conference record on the season.
“We know the field really well and the ball rolls really fast on the turf. Hopefully they aren’t ready for that and hopefully we can pick it up for next week,” Defender Colleen Meredith said.
The Lady Buffs take on Eastern New Mexico University at 6 p.m. at The Pitch on Oct. 28.
