The Buffaloes ended their season with a bittersweet note in the first weekend of November as they played both at home and away.
The team was looking for a chance to keep their October winning streak alive into November as they took on St. Edwards University at home for Senior Night. The Buffs had no problem starting on the right foot as Rodrigo Morino scored 19:35 into the game to give WTAMU the lead.
The Buffs refused to sit on that one goal lead, however, as Isaias Miramontes scored with 1:32 left in the first half to send the Buffs to the locker room up 2-0.
St. Edward’s refused to go without a fight though as they scored with 10 minutes left in the game. The last moments of the game were full of action as the Buffs tried to hold their lead. Ultimately they succeeded, winning the game 2-1 and registering 10 shots for the day.The Buffs hit the road for their final game of the season, taking on rival Midwestern State, a team that they had beat in their first weekend sweep of the season.
However, this game would go differently as No. 4-ranked Midwestern scored 23 minutes into the game. Halftime saw MSU up by one. While there were yellow cards handed out to both teams and WT received two in the second half, the Buffs wouldn’t get the ball into the net for a score during the 45 minutes.
The Mustangs extended their lead to 2-0 at the 55:19 mark for the last goal of the game. Even without a score, the Buffs registered 12 shots on the day, tying Midwestern.
The 2-0 loss was WT’s first loss since Oct. 2, taking their record to .500 on the year.
“It felt good [to only lose two games the second half of the season]. We knew that we were a good team and just had to keep on working and the success proved that. Unfortunately, it was too late to turn the season around and still make the playoffs,” defenseman Daniel Angloher said.
WT ends their season with a record of 7-7-3 overall and an LSC record of 1-4-1.
