Saturday, April 13, was the WTAMU Spring Fling carnival.  The Spring Fling is a CORE sponsored event that gives WT organizations the opportunity to raise money for their organization. More than 26 organizations were present at the carnival including some of the sororities and fraternities at WT, religious groups on campus and  organizations that are based on helping others such as The Hunger Project.

“We are making money and building bonds of friendship,” Amanda Durfey, a junior Agriculture Education major and president of the Herdsmen Hearts, said.

Music also graced the ears of attendees to the carnival. The band at this year’s Spring Fling was The Well Reds from Atlanta, Ga. who have been playing together for five years and have one album out called Violet.

“Love the band,” Nikki Kerby, a junior General Education major, said.

Many of the organizations also had games for those attending the Spring Fling to participate in.  The Ladies of E.X. Clusive had an obstacle course that was done while wearing drunk goggles, and the National Broadcasting Society had a green screen set up so people could choose what background they wanted for their pictures .

WT students were not the only ones there. Children and their families around the Canyon community also ventured into the Pedestrian Mall at WT to participate in the games and activities.

“[My favorite is] jumping jive,” Maddison, a five year old, said about the inflated obstacle course.

Food was also provided by various organizations including hot dogs, cotton candy and grilled cheese sandwiches.
