September is National Campus Safety Awareness Month. In response to this, PULSE has decided to create events that will be held in the JBK about making our campus stronger, according to Caleb Hubbard, a junior math major and the current president of PULSE.
“We want everyone to know that they have a voice,” Hubbard said.
The first of the two #SCSV events was held Sept. 16. There was a video slide show to inform students. PULSE members were there so that students could speak to them along with UPD. The UPD officers were there to answer questions and to speak with students if they needed to.
“More people involved makes the campus safer because their voices are being heard,” Reid Copeland, a junior secondary science major and a member of PULSE, said.
The second event will be held on Sept. 24 and will be much like the first event but PULSE hopes “to engage students and make it fun,” Hubbard said.
“It is important to let students know that they don’t just have to be a bystander; they can be empowered and make a difference,” Amanda Kraemer, graduate student studying English and past president of PULSE, said.
PULSE itself is an organization that talks to students and informs them about edgier topics such as alcohol, drugs, tobacco, safe sex, STD and assaults.
“I want to inform people and help them,” Hubbard said.
