The 46th Pigskin Revue Celebration at West Texas A&M University will be held at the White Buffalo near Bain-Schaeffer Buffalo Stadium on Friday, Oct. 11th from 6:30-9pm..
The WT Pigskin Revue Celebration honors WT spirit and pride, celebrates students, continues and renews old traditions as well as the start of new ones.
Vice President of Division of Student Affairs at WT, Dr. Chris Thomas, described the exciting festivities of this year’s Pigskin Revue Celebration.
“A street party with food, music, games, our homecoming court presentation, and the lighting of the Eternal Flame,” Thomas said. “All centered around our iconic White Buffalo statue at Bain-Schaeffer Buffalo Stadium.”
Thomas also explained the new activities that will take place at this year’s Pigskin Revue Celebration.
“This year we are closing down Russell Long Boulevard between Jarrett Hall and the Virgil Henson Activities Center,” Thomas said. “The location is different, we are using the stadium as an extension of the event and adding food and drinks for our students.”
Executive Director of the WT Alumni Association and Assistant Vice President of Alumni Relations, Ronnie Hall, who also holds the role of Homecoming Committee chair shared what he is looking forward to at this year’s Pigskin Revue Celebration.
“I am thrilled to see the exciting changes that WT Student Government Association has planned for this year’s Pigskin Revue,” Hall said. “Additionally, moving Pigskin Revue to the White Buffalo at Bain-Schaeffer Buffalo Stadium adds an exciting dimension to this year’s event by creating an engaging atmosphere for the evening.”
Also during the Pigskin Revue Celebration, the Eternal Flame will be lit for the first time in five years.
The Eternal Flame is to symbolize the 1914 fire that destroyed the administration building when WT was called West Texas State Normal College.
“While the physical structure of the University was completely destroyed, the spirit remained and in 1916, the building we know as Old Main rose from the ashes,” Hall said. “WT is rich in history, and seeing the return of the flame-lighting ceremony is a fantastic way to honor our traditions.”
Both Hall and Thomas explained the importance of the Pigskin Revue Celebration tradition at WT in the year’s past and the importance of past, present and future buffaloes coming together to celebrate WT.
“It is one of our oldest traditions, a chance to celebrate our past and honor our present students on the Homecoming court,” Thomas said. “It’s the kind of event you remember and talk about at your later homecoming reunions.”
“This event is an important part of WT Homecoming as it brings together the WT Student body, alumni and fans to celebrate their Buff Spirit,” Hall said.
